The Biology of the Magic Truffle
Why these vibrant nodules unite the wonder of nature and science

Magic truffles are not gourmet culinary truffles. They are the hidden survival power of a fungus. Biologically, they are sclerotia, compact underground structures formed by some species of Psilocybe fungi when conditions are unfavourable. What makes them special is that they are designed to survive as well as spawn life again once conditions are right.

Unlike the magic mushroom, which forms fruiting bodies and spreads spores above ground, the magic truffle is a kind of emergency ration for the fungus. It stores nutrients, water and alkaloid substances in a closed structure. In nature, this happens under stressful conditions such as drought or lack of oxygen. So the truffle is not a 'fruit' but a strategy of survival.

Active substances

In the pharmaceutical world, it is often stated that two alkaloid compounds are involved, psilocybin and psilocin. And yes, these compounds are potent and well researched. But at Microdosing XP, we believe this is only part of the story. Magic truffles contain multiple bioactive compounds, including baeocystin, norbaeocystin and aeruginascin, and probably many more compounds that have yet to be fully mapped.

It is not about one isolated substance. It is about the cooperation between all the substances that nature has brought together in this truffle. This natural synergy is known as the entourage effect - the whole is more than the sum of its parts. As with plants like cannabis, cocoa or turmeric, it is the entire chemical composition that provides the experience, the balance, and the healing power.

Nature knows what she is doing. We only have to follow her, and preserve with care what she gives.

How is a magic truffle created biologically

  1. The fungus spreads as mycelium in a suitable substrate such as cereal products, wood fibre, coffee grounds or rice
  2. Under adverse conditions, the fungus switches to survival mode
  3. The mycelium forms a hard core, the sclerotium
  4. That core stores everything needed to grow again later on
  5. Once the environment improves, this truffle can produce mycelium again and produce magic mushrooms or magic truffles again

Magic truffles often contain psilocybin, psilocin and associated substances such as baeocystin, norbaeocystin and aeruginascin. The concentration of these varies by species, but is usually more stable than in magic mushrooms, especially if they are professionally cultivated truffles.

Moisture and dry matter, an important difference

The magic mushroom consists of about 90 per cent water and has a shelf life of only a few days after harvest. The magic truffle, on the other hand, contains about 45 per cent water and as much as 55 per cent dry matter.

This high dry matter content makes it more compact, potent and much longer-lasting. Magic truffles can stay fresh for up to three months at a storage temperature of between 4 and 6 degrees.

If they get too hot, they start producing CO2 again and the packaging bulges. If they turn black, they are dying and it is better not to use them anymore.

Microdosing XP's approach, cleaner than nature

After years of research and refinement, Microdosing XP has succeeded in developing a cultivation method that not only follows but surpasses the biological principles of truffle formation. What normally happens in chaotic and contaminated soil happens here in a completely controlled and sterile environment.

  1. The substrate is first completely sterilised so that no other micro-organisms can grow
  2. This substrate is placed in sealed bags and infused with carefully selected Psilocybe mycelium using a syringe
  3. The bag remains closed, preventing oxygen from reaching it. This lack of oxygen makes the formation of magic mushrooms impossible
  4. The fungus reacts by forming sclerotia, which grow and mature for months
  5. No light is required and no dirt enters from outside. This creates a product that is biologically purer than would be possible in nature

Clean harvesting, immediate cooling and packed per gram

After the growth cycle, the magic truffles are hygienically harvested in a sterile room and immediately cooled between 4 and 6 degrees. This inhibits further fungal activity and keeps the product fresh.

Microdosing XP has also developed its own dosing and vacuum packaging machine. With this, the truffles are packed per 1 gram in a strip of 6 individual portions. Each portion is vacuum-packed so that oxygen does not affect shelf life. This strip packaging extends freshness and makes microdosing extremely precise, safe and convenient. No more cutting or weighing, one gram is one serving.

Significance for microdosing

For those using magic truffles for microdosing, these biological properties are of great importance. The increased stability, longer shelf life and consistent composition allow you to dose with precision. Every gram is equivalent in composition. And thanks to sterile cultivation, the risk of contamination or degradation of active substances is minimal.

Microdosing requires reliability, safety and consistency. Magic truffle, as produced by Microdosing XP, offers exactly that. It is a natural product, but with a controlled origin. That makes it suitable for daily use within microdosing protocols.

Conclusion

The magic truffle is biologically a miracle. A living micro-organism designed to survive, remain active and be able to grow again when the time is right.

Thanks to the technological and biological innovations of Microdosing XP, a pure, safe and effective version of this natural power source is available to us today.

For microdosing, this is not only a gift from Mother Earth, but also a model of human precision and care.
