At a time when mental health problems are becoming more common and traditional treatments are not always effective, the website PsychedeliCare.eu offers a hopeful perspective. This site is the digital heart of a European citizens' initiative that aims to provide safe, affordable and regulated access to psychedelic therapies within the European Union.

What is PsychedeliCare?

PsychedeliCare is an official European citizens' initiative launched on 14 January 2025. The aim is to collect one million signatures from EU citizens by 13 January 2026. With this support, the initiative can ask the European Commission to:(Psychedelic Alpha, PsychedeliCare.EU)
  1. Develop European standards for safe and effective psychedelic therapies, including guidelines for therapists and ethical protocols.
  2. Promote research on psychedelic treatments through increased EU funding.
  3. Amend international legislation so that psychedelic substances are reviewed in line with current scientific knowledge.(PsychedeliCare.EU, Psychedelic Alpha)
  4. This initiative is unique of its kind and represents a collective effort of citizens, scientists, therapists and activists from nearly 20 countries.(Psychedelic Alpha)

Why is this important?

More than 1 in 6 Europeans struggle with mental health problems such as depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD and addictions. Traditional treatments do not always provide relief. Scientific research shows that psychedelic therapies, such as those involving psilocybin and MDMA, can provide promising results for patients who do not respond to conventional treatments. Countries such as Australia, Canada, Switzerland and the US have already taken steps towards regulated psychedelic therapies; Europe can and should follow.(Psychedelic Alpha)
